RMUN XVI 2021 “Empowering Successful Leaders†– Greetings by Secretary-General

It is a joy for the Social Sciences Area to confirm that the RMUN XVI model will take place on May 20. With the motto: “Empowering Successful Leaders†which summarizes the intention of this year’s model, we hope that students in Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth grades decide to take this opportunity to show their competence in solving real problems, being optimally informed, be systemic in thinking, acting and leading; through the exercise of the construction of consensual solutions, debate and empathetic listening activities that have always defined the spirit of RMUN over the years.

We want to thank all Twelfth Grade candidates who submitted their candidacy for the role of General Secretaries. Their proposals showed that the RMUN model is in the quality world of our students. Additionally we wish to congratulate and recognize the students: Mariana Hernández and Santiago Páez, who, after responding to the call and attending an interview with the other candidates, in which the Principal, Alethia Bogoya, the Director of High School Relations, Sally Torres, the Academic Secretary, Néstor Arias and the Curriculum Director participated. of Social Sciences, Milena Caballero, presented and argued their proposals successfully.

We then add in this message, the words of introduction and welcome to the Model RMUN XVI 2021, which the General Secretaries: Mariana Hernández and Santiago Páez wish to send to the Rochester community:

“I am Mariana Hernández from Twelfth Grade; I am 18 years old and in July I will study law. Being the Secretary General has been my goal since I began my participation in United Nations Models in Seventh Grade. Over the years I made an effort to prepare myself to assume this role, so I feel happy and fulfilled to have achieved my goal this year, and more so, because I achieved it together with my friend for 14 years, with whom we dreamed of this moment.

My expectations for this model are: to be able to lead an academic activity that promotes the development of interpersonal relationships, teamwork, intellectual enrichment and systems thinking. I want a model that manages to overcome the adversities that we are facing due to the current health situation; a model that meets the criteria of a Glasser Quality School, and the expectations of a high-level United Nations Model, as has been always the case in our school. I am willing and committed to give my all so that this model succeeds and is led with responsibility and commitment.â€

“I am Santiago Páez, I am 18 years old and I am in Twelfth Grade. These characteristics are true about me, but they do not define me at all; what I really am lies in my attitudes and virtues, which are the reason why I decided to participate in the call for the Secretary-General of RMUN XVI. Throughout my life, and with my decisions and actions, I have developed virtues such as: leadership, cooperation, collaboration, professional self-evaluation, systemic as a citizen and integral health. I believe that I have been able to develop all these virtues thanks to exercises such as the United Nations Models.  It is my hope for Rochester students that this continues. In my participation in these models I have led benches, proposals, agreements, committees and above all, I have led my future. For me, the way I can relate to my colleagues while expressing my ideas is one of the necessary skills of any human being. Everything I have learned and gained in my participation and my experience in various models, is what I wish for the Delegates to experience in RMUN XVI, to make the decision to become successful leaders and  feel empowered in these spaces.â€
