Celebramos la FILBo 2025: Una Fiesta de Palabras, Imaginación y Comunidad

El Colegio Rochester vivió una jornada inolvidable como parte de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Bogotá (FILBo) 2025, al recibir en su campus al reconocido autor e ilustrador mexicano Juan Gedovius. Esta celebración literaria, dirigida a los estudiantes de segundo grado, fue un verdadero encuentro con la literatura viva: una mañana llena de narraciones orales, canciones, música compartida y momentos mágicos que despertaron la imaginación de grandes y chicos.

Uno de los momentos más conmovedores fue la entrevista realizada por los estudiantes Juan José y Sara, quienes, guiados por su maestra Liliana Vásquez, se prepararon con esmero para dialogar con el autor. La sorpresa final fue un obsequio colectivo hecho a mano, que emocionó profundamente a Gedovius y generó un ambiente de cercanía, gratitud y alegría compartida.

Gracias a la gestión de Alethia, el evento abrió sus puertas a colegios invitados, reafirmando el compromiso del Colegio Rochester como institución anfitriona de experiencias culturales significativas. Nuestro equipo logístico, liderado por Daniela y Juliana, trabajó con dedicación para adecuar los espacios, mover sillas, afinar detalles técnicos y asegurar una atmósfera cálida y organizada. Gary registró cuidadosamente los momentos más memorables, que ya hacen parte del archivo emocional del colegio.

El equipo del CRA fue esencial en la planeación detallada del evento. Agradecemos a Manuela, Susi y Lorena por su apoyo constante, y de manera muy especial a Paul Giles, líder del proceso de participación del colegio en la FILBo. Su visión estratégica, liderazgo comprometido y acompañamiento constante fueron clave para el éxito de esta experiencia.

Pero la FILBo no se vivió solo en nuestro campus. Estudiantes de diferentes grados participaron activamente en eventos literarios organizados por otras instituciones. Frank Báez, poeta dominicano, fusionó versos y música en una propuesta innovadora para los estudiantes de octavo y noveno. La reconocida escritora Laura Restrepo compartió su visión de América Latina con los cursos superiores, y los autores españoles Alfredo Gómez Cerdá y Mónica Rodríguez cautivaron con sus historias a los grados tercero, cuarto y escuela media.

Agradecemos a los docentes del área de Castellano —Roxana, José Alejandro y Leonardo— por su acompañamiento entusiasta y constante durante todas estas experiencias. Su presencia fue fundamental para enriquecer el aprendizaje y la conexión de los estudiantes con la literatura.

La participación del Colegio Rochester en la FILBo 2025 no solo celebra el amor por la lectura, sino que evidencia el trabajo en equipo, la visión educativa de largo plazo y el compromiso institucional con la formación integral. Fue, sin duda, una inversión que deja huella en el corazón de nuestros estudiantes.

FILBo 2025: A celebration of words, imagination, and community.

Rochester School experienced an unforgettable day as part of the 2025 Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo), welcoming renowned Mexican author and illustrator Juan Gedovius to our campus. This literary celebration, designed for our second-grade students, was a vibrant encounter with living literature—filled with storytelling, songs, shared music, and magical moments that sparked the imagination of young and old alike.

One of the most moving highlights was the interview led by students Juan José and Sara, who carefully prepared themselves under the guidance of their teacher Liliana Vásquez. The morning closed with a heartfelt surprise: a handmade gift from the children to the author, who was visibly touched. The moment was full of warmth, gratitude, and shared joy.

Thanks to Alethia’s coordination, the event was also opened to guest schools, reaffirming Rochester School’s commitment to hosting meaningful cultural experiences. Our logistics team, led by Daniela and Juliana, worked with dedication to prepare the spaces, move chairs, fine-tune technical details, and create a warm, welcoming environment. Gary’s photo documentation beautifully captured the most memorable moments of the day.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) team played a crucial role in the event’s planning. We thank Manuela, Susy, and Lorena for their continuous support, and offer special recognition to Paul Giles, who led Rochester’s participation in FILBo 2025. His strategic vision, committed leadership, and constant accompaniment were essential to the success of this event.

But FILBo didn’t stop at our campus. Students from various grades also took part in literary events at other institutions. Dominican poet Frank Báez mesmerized eighth and ninth graders by blending his poetry with live DJ music. Renowned author Laura Restrepo offered a powerful conversation with tenth and eleventh graders about Latin America, Bogotá, and her writing journey. Meanwhile, Spanish authors Alfredo Gómez Cerdá and Mónica Rodríguez enchanted younger students in grades four, five, and Middle School with their storytelling.

We sincerely thank our Spanish Department teachers—Roxana, José Alejandro, and Leonardo—for their enthusiastic support throughout these experiences. Their presence helped enrich each encounter and deepened our students’ connection with literature.

Rochester School’s participation in FILBo 2025 was more than a literary celebration—it was a testament to teamwork, strategic educational vision, and our institutional commitment to holistic student development. Without a doubt, it was an investment that left a lasting impression on our students’ hearts.
