Ecological Hiking – Junin,Cundinamarca – 6th Grade

On April 21, in an incredible pedagogical field trip, the students and teachers of 7thABCD had the opportunity to see the surroundings of the Guavio Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is the first largest plant in operation in Colombia. Its reservoir covers the municipalities of Ubalá, Gachalá, Gachetá, Gama and Junín, and began operating on December 15, 1992.
With a bus ride of 1 hour and 30 minutes from the school, we could observe the natural environment of the páramo (many frailejones, fog and humidity). We finally passed Guasca and, before reaching Junín, the bus took us to the beginning of our adventure. We climbed a wet and steep path for 50 minutes (walking through on the short route). The Awalí guides were telling us about the vegetation, the dam and environmental care of the place.
Going up and up we reached the Sueva Waterfall, imposing and very mighty because we are in the rainy season. There we enjoyed a wonderful view and recharged our totally natural air and environment systems.
It was an excellent opportunity for our students to get to know a different place and learn about our páramos and the importance of environmental conservation.

Resumen: El pasado 21 de abril, en una increíble salida pedagógica, los estudiantes y profesores de 6ºABCD tuvimos la oportunidad de conocer los alrededores de la Central Hidroeléctrica del Guavio, que es la primera central en funcionamiento más grande de Colombia. Su embalse abarca los municipios de Ubalá, Gachalá, Gachetá, Gama y Junín, y entró en operación el 15 de diciembre de 1992.
Con un recorrido en bus de 1 hora y treinta minutos desde el colegio, tuvimos la oportunidad de observar el ambiente natural del páramo (muchos frailejones, niebla y humedad). Al fin pasamos Guasca y, antes de llegar a Junín, el bus nos llevó al comienzo de nuestra aventura. Subimos por un camino húmedo y escarpado durante 50 minutos (recorrido en la ruta corta). Los guías de Awalí nos iban contando acerca de la vegetación, la represa y cuidados ambientales del lugar.
Subiendo y subiendo llegamos a la Cascada de Sueva, imponente y muy caudalosa debido a que estamos en temporada de lluvia. Allí disfrutamos de una maravillosa vista y recargamos nuestros sistemas de aire y ambiente totalmente naturales.
Fue una excelente oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes conocieran un lugar diferente y aprendieran sobre nuestros páramos y la importancia de la conservación ambiental.
