Our Constitution comes to life!
By Laura Vaquen, EMS Teacher PK
We began this term by introducing our grade-level Constitution Animals, characters who accompany us in our daily classroom life and help us understand and put into practice our expected behaviors and classroom agreements.
With the support of Artificial Intelligence, we were able to bring these lovable friends to life and make them the main characters of fun, meaningful stories inspired by situations our students experience in their everyday lives. In this way, our classroom agreements become more than just rules to remember; they become opportunities to reflect, make decisions, and discover new ways of learning and interacting with one another.
We met Gigi the Giraffe, who helps her friend Milo the playful Monkey discover that listening and following instructions can also be a superpower. Through their adventure, the children reflected on the importance of stopping, looking, listening, and putting instructions into practice so they can actively participate in and enjoy different learning experiences.
We also met Oli the Owl, who taught us an important lesson about what it truly means to listen. With Oli, we discovered that listening does not only involve using our ears, but also our eyes, bodies, and posture. When we turn our gaze toward the speaker, maintain an attentive posture, and prepare our bodies to learn, we show others that we are ready to listen and participate.
These characters have become friendly and engaging mediators who help our students recognize, understand, and practice our classroom agreements in meaningful contexts. Each story gives us an opportunity to talk about our actions, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate the small achievements that, day by day, help us build a positive classroom community.
