Un nuevo año para aprender, crecer y construir juntos

Es un verdadero placer darles la bienvenida a este nuevo año escolar. Iniciamos este camino con mucha ilusión, entusiasmo y grandes expectativas por todo lo que nuestros estudiantes podrán aprender, descubrir y construir a lo largo de este año.

¿Cómo seguiremos fortaleciendo nuestro programa de Desarrollo de Virtudes?

High School 2 representa una etapa muy especial dentro de la trayectoria escolar. Nuestros estudiantes continúan consolidando sus aprendizajes académicos y, al mismo tiempo, se encuentran en un momento fundamental para fortalecer su identidad, tomar decisiones cada vez más conscientes y asumir con mayor responsabilidad el impacto de sus acciones en sí mismos, en los demás y en el mundo que los rodea.

Por esta razón, uno de nuestros grandes propósitos este año será seguir acompañándolos en el camino de ser mejores personas y poner lo que aprenden al servicio de los demás. En este propósito, la formación en virtudes ocupará un lugar muy importante. Las virtudes estarán presentes tanto en los diferentes espacios académicos como en nuestra clase de Desarrollo de Virtudes. Queremos que nuestros estudiantes comprendan que las virtudes no son simplemente conceptos que aprendemos, sino disposiciones que construimos a través de nuestras decisiones y acciones cotidianas. Nuestro objetivo es que puedan reconocerlas, practicarlas y, sobre todo, llevarlas a su vida.

**¿Qué es “Keeping the Secret”?**

En este marco, uno de los grandes proyectos que viviremos este año será el proyecto integrado de grado 10°, “Keeping the Secret” (Manteniendo el Secreto), inspirado en una propuesta pedagógica del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Este proyecto interdisciplinario ha sido adaptado especialmente para nuestros estudiantes y tiene como eje conductor la seguridad de la información, el diseño de códigos, la criptografía y la transmisión de datos a lo largo de la historia humana y en el mundo natural. A través de esta experiencia, nuestros estudiantes podrán descubrir que aquello que hoy conocemos como ciberseguridad tiene conexiones sorprendentes con diferentes áreas del conocimiento.

Explorarán los fundamentos lógico-matemáticos y computacionales que sustentan la seguridad de la información moderna, pero también se preguntarán cómo la naturaleza codifica y transmite información vital, cómo la literatura y el lenguaje permiten estructurar y comunicar mensajes y qué ocurre cuando decidimos guardar, compartir o revelar información.

Pero hay algo aún más importante: “Keeping the Secret” también nos invita a reflexionar sobre quiénes somos y cómo elegimos actuar. ¿Qué significa realmente guardar un secreto? ¿Cuándo es correcto proteger una información y cuándo debemos compartirla? ¿Qué responsabilidades tenemos cuando manejamos información de otras personas? ¿Qué consecuencias puede tener revelar información sin considerar sus implicaciones?

Estas preguntas permitirán conectar el aprendizaje académico con la formación en virtudes como la prudencia, la responsabilidad y la honestidad, haciendo evidente que la tecnología y el conocimiento siempre deben estar acompañados de criterio ético.

**Proyectos de Grado/AP Research**

Por otra parte, High School 2 vivirá este año una experiencia académica muy especial a través de los Proyectos de Grado y AP Research. Estos espacios brindarán a nuestros estudiantes la oportunidad de desarrollar investigaciones de alto nivel, profundizar en temas que despierten su curiosidad e interés y crear productos de alta calidad que reflejen su capacidad para investigar, analizar, resolver problemas y comunicar sus ideas de manera rigurosa. Más allá del resultado académico, estas experiencias fortalecen competencias fundamentales para la vida universitaria y les permiten construir un perfil académico sólido y diferenciado para sus futuros procesos de admisión.

**Nuestro Programa AP Capstone**

Nos llena especialmente de orgullo celebrar que el año pasado cuatro de nuestros estudiantes obtuvieron el AP Capstone Diploma, un reconocimiento internacional otorgado por College Board que distingue a estudiantes que han desarrollado habilidades avanzadas de investigación, pensamiento crítico, colaboración y comunicación a través de AP Seminar y AP Research. Este año contamos con más de diez candidatos al diploma, lo que representa una oportunidad extraordinaria para continuar elevando el nivel académico de nuestros estudiantes y acompañarlos en la construcción de proyectos que trasciendan el aula y tengan un verdadero significado para ellos.

Tenemos por delante un año lleno de oportunidades, desafíos y experiencias significativas. Estamos convencidos de que será un año para aprender, crecer, construir relaciones, descubrir nuevas posibilidades y, sobre todo, poner nuestros talentos al servicio de los demás.

Gracias, queridas familias, por confiar en nosotros, por acompañar el proceso de sus hijos y por ser parte activa de nuestra comunidad educativa. Nos llena de ilusión comenzar este nuevo camino juntos y ser testigos de todo lo que nuestros estudiantes serán capaces de alcanzar.

A New Year to Learn, Grow, and Build Together

Dear High School 2 Families,

It is a true pleasure to welcome you to a new school year. We begin this journey with great excitement, enthusiasm, and high expectations for all that our students will learn, discover, and build throughout the year.

**How will we continue strengthening our Virtues Development Program?**

High School 2 represents a very special stage in our students’ educational journey. They continue to consolidate their academic learning while, at the same time, experiencing a fundamental period in which they strengthen their identity, make increasingly conscious decisions, and assume greater responsibility for the impact of their actions on themselves, others, and the world around them.

For this reason, one of our main goals this year will be to continue accompanying our students on their journey to become better people and use what they learn to serve others. Within this purpose, virtues will play a very important role. Virtues will be present both across different academic learning spaces and in our Virtues Development classes. We want our students to understand that virtues are not simply concepts we learn about, but dispositions that we develop through our everyday decisions and actions. Our goal is for them to recognize, practice, and, above all, carry these virtues into their daily lives.

**What is “Keeping the Secret”?**

As part of this vision, one of the major projects we will experience this year is the Grade 10 integrated project, “Keeping the Secret,” inspired by an educational proposal from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

This interdisciplinary project has been specially adapted for our students and focuses on information security, code design, cryptography, and the transmission of information throughout human history and in the natural world. Through this experience, our students will discover that what we know today as cybersecurity has fascinating connections to different areas of knowledge.

They will explore the logical, mathematical, and computational foundations that support modern information security, while also asking questions such as: How does nature encode and transmit vital information? How do literature and language help us structure and communicate messages? And what happens when we choose to keep, share, or reveal information?

But there is something even more important: “Keeping the Secret” also invites our students to reflect on who we are and how we choose to act. What does it really mean to keep a secret? When is it right to protect information, and when should we share it? What responsibilities do we have when handling information that belongs to others? What consequences can arise when we reveal information without considering its implications?

These questions will allow students to connect academic learning with the development of virtues such as prudence, responsibility, and honesty, making it clear that technology and knowledge must always be accompanied by ethical judgment.

**Graduation Project/AP Research**

In addition, High School 2 will experience a very special academic journey through our Grade Projects and AP Research. These experiences will provide our students with opportunities to conduct high-level research, explore topics that spark their curiosity and interests, and create high-quality products that demonstrate their ability to investigate, analyze, solve problems, and communicate their ideas rigorously.

Beyond the academic outcomes, these experiences strengthen essential skills for university life and allow our students to build a strong and distinctive academic profile as they prepare for their future university admissions processes.

**Our AP Capstone Program**

We are especially proud to celebrate that last year, four of our students earned the AP Capstone Diploma, an internationally recognized credential awarded by the College Board to students who develop advanced skills in research, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication through AP Seminar and AP Research.

This year, we have more than ten students who are candidates for the diploma, representing an extraordinary opportunity to continue raising the academic level of our students and to support them in developing projects that go beyond the classroom and have genuine meaning and purpose for them.

We have an exciting year ahead, filled with opportunities, challenges, and meaningful experiences. We are confident that it will be a year to learn, grow, build meaningful relationships, discover new possibilities, and, above all, use our talents to serve others.
