From a Seed to a Great Learning Experience

By Mónica Sierra, Kindergarten Spanish Teacher

Through reading the story *The Seed*, our students discovered and enthusiastically explained the wonderful growth process of a tiny seed—from the moment it is planted, germinates, sprouts, and grows, eventually becoming a beautiful plant that bears fruit. Throughout this experience, the Kindergarten students expressed their ideas eloquently, made connections, and shared what they had learned. They also successfully identified and used the “words of the week,” enriching their vocabulary and strengthening their oral expression. Afterwards, they applied this knowledge to their writing, practicing proper line usage and putting what they had learned into action.

This strategy was particularly meaningful, as it allowed us to naturally integrate the project we had been developing with the entire Preschool team, connecting reading, writing, vocabulary, science, and exploration of the world around us. Best of all, this learning extended beyond the classroom to our Learning Presentations, where our students were able to share everything they had discovered about seeds with their families, demonstrating their knowledge with confidence and enthusiasm.

Seeing their families so proud and moved was, without a doubt, a wonderful reward for the entire process and a reminder that when we learn with purpose, we can share what we have learned from the heart.
